Commissions

Your wall. Your view. Cut in glass, by hand.

A commission starts with a conversation and ends with the only piece of its kind in the world. Murals, shower features, backsplash art, fireplace surrounds, framed pieces, outdoor medallions — if a wall can hold tile, it can hold a mosaic.

The process

How a commission runs

1

The conversation

Free, no obligation. The space, the idea, rough sizes and budget — a photograph or a half-formed notion is a perfectly good start.

2

The drawing

Your design drawn full-size, with a colour palette and material samples. You approve it — or send it back for changes — before anything is cut.

3

The build

Every piece hand-cut, checked and placed one at a time in the studio. Minimum 30 days; murals and big features run longer and are scheduled honestly.

4

The delivery

Grouted, sealed and crated for insured delivery anywhere in the US, with care notes for its materials. Installed features are fitted on site.

Who makes it

The man who draws it is the man who cuts it.

Simon Beames has spent 26 years in the tile trade — Schluter-certified, TCNA-standard work — and the studio is where that craft turns into art. Studio fabrication and on-site setting are both his, which is how the fit and the longevity get guaranteed.

  • Work from your photograph, your land, your idea — redrawn as a mosaic design
  • Hand-cut glass, stained glass, smalti and natural stone — never mosaic sheets
  • Wet-area and outdoor pieces built on the right systems for the setting
  • Commissions for homes and businesses — restaurants, lodges, venues, offices

Straight answers

Commission questions, answered plainly

How long does a custom mosaic commission take?

Every piece is made to order by hand, so please allow a minimum of 30 days in the studio once the design is approved. Larger murals are scheduled further out. If you have a date in mind — a remodel deadline or a gift — say so early and the schedule gets built around it.

Do you ship finished pieces?

Yes — framed pieces are crated and shipped, insured, anywhere in the US. Shipping costs are the buyer’s, quoted at cost before the piece leaves the studio.

How much does it cost to commission a mosaic?

Smaller commissions start from around $450. Size, materials, detail level and setting conditions set the final number, and the design consultation is part of the work.

Can you work from my idea, or do I pick from existing designs?

Your idea. A rough dimension, a reference image, or simply the thing you can’t stop thinking about is enough for the first conversation. The shop holds design directions if you’d like a starting point.

Can you make a mosaic for my shower or kitchen backsplash?

Yes. Wet-area and backsplash mosaics are regular commissions — fabricated for waterproof installation and set to the same standard as fine tile work.
